The National Broadcast Orchestra is coming to life in the world of Web 2.0, which just means the Web is more interactive than it used to be.  That’s why our website is actually a WordPress blog, run from a kitchen table instead of a design studio.  That’s also why we have postings on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.  In Web 2.0, we can’t just have a static website with one-way communication.  It’s all about the discussion.

These days, when you read or watch something on the web, there is usually an opportunity to have direct interaction, including commenting on it, ranking it, and sharing it with others.  The more interactions a post receives, the more it is recognized by search engines like Google, and the more it may be discovered by entirely new audiences.  Therefore, it helps the NBO when you interact with our posts, create a discussion, or pass it along to others.

Here are 5 Quick Tips on how to make a difference with your online interactions:

  1. In general, when there’s an opportunity to leave a comment – go ahead!  There are comment fields on our website posts, our Facebook page, and our YouTube channel.  Don’t be shy – we’re interested in the feedback, and other viewers are further engaged by the discussion.
  2. On our Facebook page, you can comment on wall posts, or click that you like it.  You can also give comments and likes on other elements, such as photos.  For the more adventurous, you can start a topic on the discussion page, or participate in one that’s already going.
  3. Our YouTube channel, NBOtube, now has our first posting.  You can leave written comments and also rank the video on a five star scale.  YouTube provides links as part of each video’s info so you can paste these links into email or social networking sites, or even Embed the video on your own site.
  4. Twitter is potentially the most powerful way to spread the word, far and fast.  It’s all about passing along the things you like, and creating short snappy discussion.  Even if you don’t have a Twitter account, you can subscribe to our Twitter feed using RSS.
  5. Of course, all the old web technology still works, too, and we’re always happy to receive your feedback, impressions and comments by email (info@broadcastorchestra.ca).  We’ll even post it on our blog if you want!

If you ever need help with this stuff, Google is a great place for more tips, or ask any 12-year old.  That’s what I usually do.  Happy re-tweeting!
